"Rami" has
been doing some heavy reading!

See “Podenco
Ibicenco”,
F.C.I. classification: Group 5, Section 7 Primitive
Type Hunting Dogs, specifically “Podenco Ibicenco”.
Reading the standards from other countries, especially
the country of origin can be educational and
thought provoking.
CONTROL
OF CANINE GENETIC DISEASE George Padgett,
DVM, Howell Book House. 1998.
This is an invaluable book
for any serious student of any breed and is not just
for the breeder. It is much more than an explanation
of canine genetics. Eight years ago it set me on my path
in selection of the breeders to obtain dogs from, evaluating
health issues, and what breeders, parent clubs, and individuals
should be doing to control genetic disease. Recommended
reading before buying or breeding an Ibizan Hound.
DOG
LOCOMOTION AND GAIT ANALYSIS Curtis Brown.
Hoflin Press.
If I had to select only one book on this
subject, and there are many, this is it. Excellent on
the sighthound breeds. Dense material. I am still learning
from it, but maybe I am slow!
“SIGHTHOUNDS
AFIELD”

SO

Comno. 1996.
Useful handbook with essentials. Handy to
have when traveling to events.
CARE
OF THE RACING & RETIRED GREYHOUND Linda
Blythe. Published by the American Greyhound Council,
Inc. 2007. First Edition
My copy is
appropriately “dog eared”.
The chapters and illustrations/photographs on physiology,
medicine, surgery, training, nutrition, as they pertain
to the greyhound, are extremely useful. The highly
specialized greyhound possesses unique characteristics
but there is more than enough crossover to other
sighthound types to recommend this book. I do not
recommend it as a treatment bible but for diagnosis
and fundamentals it is great. It provides photos
and radiographs of most of the physical injuries
you are likely to encounter.
Mitch created the oil painting of seven of my
Ibizans featured as the banner of this website. He portrays
dogs in many media and captures their unique personalities.
The scope of his work is much broader than the canine
subject.
Nan Kilgore-Little
is a long time Ibizan owner and canine artist who teamed
with her husband , Jonathan, creates unique and custom
fine arts, graphics, logos, jewelry, painting, porcelain
images and miniatures in most breeds. Nan does beautiful
breed trophies for specialties!
Susan Becker's oil portraits are vibrant
interpretations designed to touch the heart, capture
an essence, and represent a spirit and love for life ... an
elegant keepsake of your cherished companion.

...HEALTH
AND NUTRITION...
Among the countless links
on this subject, I thought this one was comprehensive
and sensible in its choices. Additionally, it shows
what people can accomplish when they commit resources
to study health problems (seizures):
Essential for me to do indepth reading and searching.
Needed for a text like the above.
PILLS
FOR PETS, Eldredge, D.V.M. or THE PILL BOOK GUIDE,
etc.
I try to research any medication before
administering it whether off the shelf or prescribed.
A book of this sort should be in every pet owner’s
library. Choose the most recently published.
